The Blog

I’m blogging again!

Picture 5

I used to blog. Like, a boatload. For about 7 years.

I’ve been busy with various projects for a while – but I’m back to blogging again and I HAVE TO blog at least once/week.

It’s part of a new team experiment ,where 7 people write on a specific day for an entire year.

I give to you: 365 Attempts (at Life).

P.S. I’m published every Thursday! Hope you’ll check us out – and join our Facebook Page too!

Cat “facial recognition” for the cat door!

catdoor

I ain’t smart.  So, I couldn’t figure out how to do this – but maybe you can! Facial recognition at the doggie (or kitty) door – so your cat can’t sneak in with dead stuff in it’s mouth.  Or so raccoons and teeny tiny burglars can’t get in!

Check it out at this link!

Art Knows No Boundaries Auction

Chief Bear Bull, Blackfoot by Chalkmaster Dave

Art Knows No Boundaries Auction will be benefiting the Lakota Pine Ridge Children’s Enrichment Project, Ltd. The LPRCEP promotes awareness and provides assistance to Oglala Lakota children on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The children are the tribal leaders of tomorrow and our efforts are designed to encourage them to stay in school and to maintain hope for a better future.

The Auction starts on Tuesday February 14, 2012 and runs through Tuesday February 28th, 2012.

This is open for any artists to join and donate a piece of art with the funds raised going to The Lakota Pine Ridge Children’s Enrichment. Artists such as Chalkmaster Dave and one of Canada’s fastest rising artists Shaun Hedican are donating pieces.

The auction is the hosted by, and all the hard work done by, Mallory Knox and her team on facebook who only a couple of months ago did a great job raising $3400 in funds for Art Knows No Boundaries Online Auction for Attawapiskat, hopefully this time we’ll surpass that goal.

Please go here to check out the artwork that is up for auction. This is the Facebook Page.

Please check out LPRCEP for more info.

Other Uses for Rice

The late comedian Mitch Hedberg had a great line about rice: Rice is great if you’re really hungry and want to eat two thousand of something.

Ah, rice – such a wonderfood! Check out these other household uses for rice:

  • Ever drop your cellphone in a toilet, snowbank or puddle? Apparently, rice can help dry it out! Bury it in a bowl of rice – that will help dry it out because the rice wicks away the moisture!
  •  Put rice to work doing dishes. You can use rice to get at those hard-to-reach bottoms of narrow-necked things like: flower vases. Simply add rice, soap, water, and then shake-shake-swirl. The rice becomes your scouring pad!
  • Add it to all your salt shakers – if it’s humid, the salt will clump together –  A pinch of rice will suck up moisture.
  • Make an easy heating pad. Fill an old sock with a couple cups of rice, and then tie up the end. Pop it in the microwave. If you’re cool with old socks in the microwave, that is.
  • Clean your coffee grinder! If, like me – you use your coffee grinder to grind other stuff – you know that bits of coffee and come out in whatever else you’re grinding! Annoying! Wipe the grinder as clean as you can and add enough rice to cover the blades. Then, grind-grind-grind, and the rice will absorb all the lingering oils that carry the smell of coffee.

Rice! Not just for gittin’ yer eat on, anymore.

Lost German Shepherd

Please keep an eye out for this poor thing – on the loose since Dec. 27th.  She may still have her leash attached. Approach her gently, as she is afraid – and her disability can cause her to panic.  Please share if you can!  She was last seen in the area of Iberville and Jean Talon (when a week before she was in the NDG area – so, she has done quite a bit of legwork!)
