Sweet Beat

…and we’re off!
Or – on – as the case may be.

The Radio

This past Saturday I started my regular weekend gig with 925 The Beat.   And I loved every second of it.  I have been overwhelmed by the suppport.  Like, really.  You’ve shown me that personalities matter on radio.  That you care about who you spend your time with.  And I can’t think of a bigger compliment that being allowed into your home and life – by choice.  I promise I’ll try not to dirty the good towels too much.

Since saying goodbye to my great friends at Virgin back in July , I’ve had 3 months radio-free.  After over 20 years of being on the air, you might think it was a big adjustment.  But if I’m being honest – not so much.  I think I needed the time to refresh, renew and remember why I love this business.  I guess knowing I was coming back, helped.  And by the time my 3 months was ending – I was really ready to get back at it.

The Reason

My giant dome is on a billboard near you.

So, why weekends? Well, over the past few years I’ve been building up my voiceover business.  I also started a website for Montreal pet-owners (www.montrealdogblog.com – featured on CTV News later this month!) With a full-time radio gig, it wasn’t unusual for me to be  in front of my computer working well into evening hours on my ‘side gigs’.  I knew I wanted to commit more time to them (and have my evenings free for Storage Wars marathons on A&E).   So now, I can focus my attention during the week on those things and wrap up my week by playing on the radio machine.  Plus Barry and I are much closer now.  For me, it’s a great balance.

The Request

Starting today, there will be a billboard campaign featuring me.  If I’m being honest, it’s flattering to a degree – but I’ve always felt  awkward with things like that (how can you not!? My massive dome even massiver all up in your grill?). But as long as I’m out there for the next few weeks – will you do me a favour? If you see one of my billboards – can you take a photo of yourself with it and send it to me (natlauzonvoice@gmail.com)?  I’ll post the pics here and then YOU’LL be a part of my billboard campaign in a way, too. Which makes more sense to me, since you’re the reason I’m on the radio machine anyway.

Have a great week everyone!

No longer a Virgin.

They always say you know when it’s ‘time’. This applies to a lot of things. You know when it’s time to poop, time to get off the Tilt-a-Whirl and time to listen when you start to feel your heart pulling in a new direction.

So – yes, it’s true. I’ve decided to leave Virgin Radio. And, let me just thwart any firmly-worded emails from my mother to management – my departure is all on good terms. All my decision. So you have no one to purple nurple but me (and I sort of like that so you won’t be doing yourself any favours).

“Time flies” is such a geriatic thing to say, so pardon me as I cough up a cobweb – but man, the years have disappeared faster than Snooki’s natural skin colour! 1999 is the year I first moved here to host N@ @ Nite on Mix 96. Then it was Andre and Nat in the Morning (I’ll tell him you said hi) and finally middays on Virgin where I’ve been the past several years. Shoehorned in there for the early part of your workday. I liked being there (especially Mondays when you all were too hungover from the weekend to even be pissed at your bosses yet. Stop looking around at everyone else, you know I’m talking to you). The Cult of Oprah

I’ll freely admit – I’m a dewy-eyed fawn in the Cult of Oprah. She’s good people. She’s done good things. And she just really knows her demographic (dewy-eyed fawns..duh!). When I was 17, I done wrote me a letter to Oprah. And look what I got back. Hey, it ain’t no CAR – but I was thrilled. 🙂 And you know what? I still am!

Gnatterings

Just an FYI that I recently made the decision to stop writing my “Natterings” column for The Monitor/Chronicle and Westmount Examiner. I LOVED it – it was such an amazing opportunity to have had for the past 2 years or so. Hopefully, I can archive my pieces here – going to be re-vamping this place soon. Why? This kid just has too much on the go at the moment (other voicework and specifically my new passionhttp://www.montrealdogblog.com/) . I was finding it hard to find the time and didn’t want to anything half-assed just for the sake of churning something out. That’s no fun now, is it? So – thanks to all of you who have read me in print – and to Toula and the entire crew at Transcontinental for giving me that first chance. I’m so appreciative and had so much fun. Maybe I’ll be back at it in the future – if you’ll have me.

…and green vomit lined the streets.

‘Sup? Today, I hung out beside the cutest Justin Bieber lookalike. My day OBVIOUSLY kicked your day’s ass. Plus, googly mitts. Behold:
